I made the viral Brazilian lemonade recipe and it takes just 10 minutes

Brazilian lemonade recipes, videos and reels have been making the rounds on Instagram and TikTok recently.

However, despite being called Brazilian lemonade, it’s actually limeade and is made using fresh limes.

The reason it’s called “lemonade” is because the word for lime in Portuguese is limão and in Portuguese they call it “limonada” which translates to lemonade.

There are a few different versions of the recipe but all of them involve fresh limes or lime juice, sugar or condensed milk.

What makes this recipe so simple is that it can use whole limes with the skin and everything.

While using whole limes sounds like it could be bitter, the trick is how long the limes are blended for. Blend them too much and the beverage will taste more bitter.

The beverage tasted zesty, tangy and refreshing with hints of lime and an underlying sweetness.

It tasted amazing in a tall glass over lots of ice. I garnished the glass with a segment of lime.

  • Four limes
  • 1 litre of water
  • 150g of sweetened condensed milk

1. Cut each lime into eight segments ensuring the ends of the limes are cut off.

2. Put the lime wedges, condensed milk and water into a blender and pulse four or five times.

3. Once blended, strain the beverage into a large jug, making sure to remove any large pieces of lime that are left over.

4. When all the liquid is strained and all the lumps have been removed, pour it into a glass with ice and enjoy.
