The supermarket tunnel that’s become a huge tourist attraction – with thousands of rave reviews | The Sun

A WALKWAY at a popular UK supermarket is now a popular tourist attraction.

Despite thousands of rave reviews, TripAdvisor has previously been forced to ban comments – although this has now been lifted.

The perspex tunnel is found at Sainsbury's in the seaside town of Bude in Cornwall.

The 230ft tunnel is used to connect the supermarket to the car park.

Despite it appearing to be nothing special, it has won thousands of fans over the years.

Since TripAdvisor lifted the comment ban – after a number of 'fake' reviews – it is now the 5th best thing to do in Bude, according to reviews.

There are more than 1,000 five-star reviews, with people joking how far they had travelled to visit.

One said: "After many travels and witnessing many of the marvels of Europe and the North American continent, nothing quite prepared me for the sheer beauty and simplicity of the Bude Tunnel.

"It needs no turrets, or columns, or architectural flourishes of any kind – the perfect curve of the arch is all you need."

Someone else joked: "I've travelled the world with the Royal Navy, I've been to the North Pole and I've tracked Lemurs in Madagascar but nothing compares to the Bude tunnel.

"You have to experience it to believe it."

Another person wrote: "It was one of the best tunnels I have ever seen in my life."

Someone simply commented: "Ten times better than the Eiffel Tower."

Not everyone is a fan of the tunnel, however.

One shopper commented: "What is the hype about for this attraction? Bit of a waste of time."

A second said: "Wasn't even sure we were at the right place, it's just a covered walkway, thought it was part of the supermarket.

"Not really sure it should qualify as an attraction."

The person who originally listed the tunnel as an attraction said they never imagined it would become such a global phenomenon.

The original poster, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: "It's been a great talking point in the town, and one that seems to have brought everyone together. That's fantastic."

Back in 2018, the supermarket even turned it into a Christmas attraction.

More than six-and-a-half miles of lighting was added to the covered walkway.

Visitors were offered free mince pies and live performances from local choirs and dance troupes.

The Bude Tunnel isn't the only strange tourist attraction in the UK.

A hole in a wall in Ilkeston in Derbyshire was the fourth-best attraction in the town on TripAdvisor.
