Todd Haynes will be honored with the Zurich Film Festival’s A Tribute To… Award at its upcoming 19th edition.
The Swiss festival announced the honor as it unveiled its full line-up on Thursday.
The U.S. director will be presented with the honorary prize ahead of a screening of new film May December on October 3.
“It’s a real honour to celebrate this master of American cinema. Todd Haynes is renowned for his elegant mise-en-scène and his ability to get the best from his actors and actresses,” said ZFF Artistic Director Christian Jungen.

“We also have a long-standing working relationship with Todd. The outstanding drama May December featuring Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman is the third film he has presented with us in the last ten years.”
Previous recipients of the award include Paolo Sorrentino, Wim Wenders, Olivier Assayas, Claire Denis, Michael Haneke, Oliver Stone, Maïwenn and Luca Guadagnino.
This year’s program will include 148 films with a record 52 world and European premieres, which is 14 more than last year.
Titles competing in the main feature film competition – focused on first, second and third works – are Ama Gloria, Enea, Fair Play, Femme, Hesitation Wound, How To Have Sex, The Rapture, Mandoob, Melk, Slow, Stolen, The Hypnosis, The Red Suitcase and Varvara.
They compete for a $27,000 (25,000 Swiss Francs) cash prize and Zurich’s Golden Eye award.
The festival also announced that Ethan Hawke will attend with new film Wildcat.
The Flannery O’Connor biopic, which world premiered at Telluride and has just played in Toronto, is among 21 Special Screenings which also include Harmony Korine’s Aggro Dr1ft, Ryûsuke Hamaguchi’s Evil Does Not Exist and Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and The Heron.
As previously announced, Dream Scenario, starring Nicholas Cage, opens the festival as one of 21 Gala Screenings which also include Priscilla, Les Indésirables, Fingernails, In The Land Of Saints And Sinners, Saltburn and The Palace.
Further high-profile guests will include Diane Kruger, who will attend with Visions and receive the Golden Eye award, and Jessica Chastain, who will accompany Memory and be feted with the festival’s Golden Icon prize.
UK rocker Pete Doherty will also be putting in an appearance accompanying the world premiere of bio-doc Peter Doherty: Stranger in My Own Skin in the festival’s Sounds sidebar.
The Zurich Film Festival runs from September 28 to October 8.
