Three-ingredient overnight oats are quick and easy to make in minutes

As one of the most popular healthy breakfast ideas out there, the internet has become swamped with recipes for overnight oats.

While some claim to be healthy while containing popular chocolate bars and biscuits, this recipe is loved for its simplicity.

The basic formula means it can be adapted to suit any taste buds with endless possibilities of toppings to choose from.

Sharing the recipe on the vegetarian food blog, HurryTheFoodUp, Hauke Fox claimed that his recipe makes “the easiest overnight oats ever”.

The food lover explained: “All the prep and assembly is completed the night before so they’re the best easy breakfast ever – all you have to do is remember to take the overnight oats out of the fridge the next morning.”

  • Rolled oats
  • Milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • Honey – (or maple syrup, agave, brown sugar)
  • Toppings (optional – cinnamon, peanut butter, Greek yoghurt, chocolate chips, fruit, seeds, nuts)

How to make overnight oats

Cinnamon, cardamom, or vanilla extract are all great candidates for adding extra flavour to the oats, which are otherwise quite plain.

All it takes is five minutes to prepare the dish, along with a few minutes to chop up any toppings such as nuts and fruit.

The main ingredient, oats, should be measured properly to the quantity of half a cup. For every portion of oats, measure equal parts milk – whether it be dairy or a plant-based alternative.

Take a clean and completely dry jar or container and combine the milk and oats.‌

Any flavourings like vanilla, cocoa powder, or cinnamon should be added at this point too to enrich the base mixture.

Once combined, secure the jars with an airtight lid and then leave the mixture in the fridge overnight.

Remove from the fridge the following morning and sweeten with the measured honey then top with any extras to finish.

Hauke recommended trying a combination of cocoa powder, peanut butter and bananas or a warming mix of Cinnamon and apples. Alternatively, blueberries, lemon, yoghurt, and maple syrup make for a fresh taste.
