A FREQUENT flyer has revealed why you should skip the hot shower after a long flight.

There is nothing better than taking a long shower after being on a plane, especially with them being rather dirty places.

But an airline expert has revealed why you should opt for a cooler shower rather than a hot one.

Travys Carinci, customer service manager for Qantas, flies nearly 60,000 miles a month as part of his job,

He told CN Traveller: "I skip overly hot showers which, even though it is tempting after a long flight, is a surefire way to dry out your skin."

Not only can hot showers dry out your skin, but it has other negative side effects too.

This includes triggering skin conditions such as eczema as well as making acne worse, as the hot water strips the skin of natural oils and healthy bacteria.

Abbas Kanani, a pharmacist at Chemist Click said: "Showering for too long (especially in a hot shower) can strip your skin of its natural oils, causing it to become dry."

And a cold shower is a much better option, especially for jet lag.

This is because it "increases your circulation" which gives a quick energy boost.

According to WebMD: "Cold water stimulates the production of noradrenaline and beta-endorphins.

"Electrical impulses are sent from our nerve endings to our brain when we take cold showers, and this chemical reaction may have an antidepressant effect on some individuals." 

Make sure to have a shower after your flight, not before.

The Point's Guy editor Nicky Kelvin said an early morning shower is a waste of time – and means you miss out on some extra sleep time.

He told Yahoo Life: "Shower the night before, as this will shave 20 minutes off the time taken to get ready, meaning you can have longer in bed."

And make sure to run your shower for at least 20 minutes after a holiday – for a very gross reason.
