A doctor has listed the five toys you should never give a child for Christmas.
Dr Meghan Martin, from the US, works in the emergency department and knows all too well about the dangers of certain gifts.
In a now-viral TikTok video the mother-of-four explained how trampolines, water beads, electric scooters, hoverboards and toys with button batteries can land kids in hospital and sometimes cause death.

First Dr Martin said any type of toy that requires a button battery shouldn’t be given to children.
‘They keep those little compartments closed with these little cheap screws – it’s not worth it. They can literally kill kids and they do every year,’ she said.
Next, Dr Martin urged parents to keep water beads away from young kids as they can be dangerous if swallowed.
‘Water beads are sold as sensory toys but little kids can ingest them when they’re small and they can get larger and cause bowel obstructions,’ Dr Martin said.
‘Don’t mess with these with little kids and they can cause problems with pets too.’

Third on the list was electric scooters – a popular gift that tends to be given to kids over eight. But riding a scooter comes with the risk of breaking a bone.
‘Kids go way too fast on these,’ Dr Martin said.
‘They hit a bump, they go flying, they mess up their faces, arms and heads – it’s bad news.’
Similarly to scooters, hoverboards should also be avoided at all costs.
‘We see so many hoverboard injuries right after Christmas,’ the doctor continued, adding: ‘They break their forearms, elbows and sometimes their heads.’
‘Hoverboards can literally light your house on fire.’
In New South Wales it’s illegal to ride motorised wheeled objects including skateboards, hoverboards and electric scooters.

Lastly, while many Aussie families tend to buy trampolines for the kids to enjoy in the backyard, the gift can lead to injuries and land kids in the emergency room.
‘Number one item from the list should not be a surprise to anyone, it’s trampolines,’ the doctor said.
‘I detest trampolines. They keep the emergency department in the orthopedics team in business.
‘It doesn’t matter if you have a net, it doesn’t matter if it’s buried in the ground. Most of the injuries actually happen on the trampoline.
‘I hope you have a wonderful holiday and do not need to pay me a visit.’
Dr Martin’s TikTok has since been viewed more than 1.3million times and other parents agreed with her points.
‘I refuse to buy anything with button batteries and recently water beads. Thanks for spreading awareness!!’ one mum wrote.
‘Someone just gave us 10000 water beads, it never came in the house,’ another said.
‘I’m really wondering how I never broke any bones as a kid with how many times I feel off the trampoline,’ a third wrote.
