John Lewis releases this year's Christmas tree decorations and people don't know whether to be horrified or amused | The Sun

IT’S not just the John Lewis Christmas telly advert that’s long awaited every festive season – it’s the tree decorations too.

And this year, shoppers have dubbed the department store’s Christmas baubles as “unhinged” – think fried chicken, oat milk and air fryers.

John Lewis’ Time Capsule range has caused a stir on social media as Brits aren’t sure how to feel about the far-from-classic baubles.

It has released glass rainbow pizza slices, sushi platters, bangers and mash plates, fried chicken buckets and bottles of soy sauce to adorn your Christmas tree.

Most of the baubles cost £8 and all of them have a shiny finish.

Shopper Kirsty May took to TikTok to showcase a selection of the bonkers baubles that she saw in store.

“Yes it’s September and yes I’ve been looking at Christmas decorations,” she said.

There were two super controversial baubles ejected from Kirsty’s post – an air fryer and a carton of oat milk.

The Rainbow Time Capsule 'Oat Milk for Santa' Christmas Tree Bauble is £7 and comes in a white carton with decorative red writing.

“An oat milk bauble, what has the world come to?” one disgruntled Brit asked.

“What the actual f**k has happened to Christmas decorations,” another echoed. “Absolutely awful!”

John Lewis’ £8 air fryer bauble also struck a few nerves, with people dubbing it “a bit much”.

“Seen the air fryer on the website last week and thought, what the eff?” one viewer commented on Kirsty’s post.

“Nothing says festive like an air fryer after all,” another penned.

However, the modern baubles were a hit with some Brits who thought they were “adorable”, with one yuletide fanatic saying “the tackier, the better”.

“I would have those,” another added. “My tree is full of unhinged decorations, including a very festive squid, dinosaurs and zebra and a kangaroo.”

Hilariously, John Lewis responded to Kirsty’s now-viral TikTok post.

“You call them unhinged, we call them insanely good,” the store replied. “It’s a fine line.”
