I was quoted £13k for a new kitchen so did it myself using Ikea bargains – I saved myself thousands | The Sun

A SAVVY woman has set out to prove that you haven't got to spend a small fortune when it comes to getting a new kitchen.

The DIY whizz explained how she was quoted a whopping £13k by a professional to transform her kitchen.

Not having that sort of money floating around, she instead decided to do it herself – and has told how it saved her thousands.

How? By shopping in Ikea and installing it herself.

In a clip shared to TikTok (@diy_mummy), she explains: "I was quoted over £13k for a new kitchen.

"So I went to Ikea and bought all units, hot, extractor, oven and microwave and it all myself and saved THOUSANDS."

And it's fair to say the kitchen is completely unrecognisable.

Gone are the dated wooden worktops in favour of a new marble-effect look, while the once-boring white cupboards have also been painted a stylish shade of charcoal blue, giving the kitchen a whole new feel.

It wasn't long before the post racked up over 300k views and several comments, with many commending the DIY whizz on her very impressive handiwork.

"Looks spectacular," praised one.

The DIY whizz replied: "Thank you. I wouldn’t be able to do all this if I had to pay professionals.

"Thankfully I love DIY and gardening."

Fabulous Digital previously told how a woman couldn’t afford a new kitchen so transformed it on the cheap.

Instead of ripping everything off and replacing it with new items, Sophie simply ''painted everything'', including the tiles, cupboards and worktop.

For this, she claimed in the video, you only needed ''a good primer and durable paint''.

Elsewhere, a savvy mum transformed her boring kitchen into a fabulous space for just £39.
