Shirley Ballas has been struck down with an illness just a few days before the Strictly Come Dancing live shows are due to kick off.
Last week, the latest season of the BBC dancing series hit screens, with famous faces including former Come Dancing presenter Angela Rippon, Love Island’s Zara McDermott and EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier taking to the floor.
It also saw the return of judges Anton Du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas.
However, Shirley, 63, has now revealed she’s currently bedridden and is fighting off sickness ahead of the series’ first live show on Saturday.
Sharing an update on social media, Shirley said she had ‘caught something’ and was being forced to slow down and take a break to try and rest up.
Posting videos from her bed, Shirley told fans she was ‘not in work’ and was ‘resting’ ahead of the next episode.
‘What a difference a day makes. So, back from Rome where it was busy – lots of people and then in the studio for the Royal Albert Hall International Championships,’ she began.
‘But yes, I think I have caught something.’
She continued: ‘So not very well today. Not in work, but I want to rest and make sure that I am ready for Strictly on Saturday.’
Looking for a bit of a distraction, she then asked fans for some air fryer recommendations, before sending her love to any-one else who was currently feeling poorly.
‘I’m sending loves and cuddles and am also feeling really excited about Saturday. Oh my gosh, wait until you see this show.
‘It is phenomenal and I think all of them will be staying until the final because they are all that good.’
Soon after Shirley posted another video saying she was ‘feeling poo poo’ but some boiled eggs, toast and a black tea made my her mum was helping her feel slightly better.
It’s been a busy few weeks for the Strictly judge, who is also gearing up for the release of her debut novel, Murder on the Dance Floor, will be released in October.
Last month Shirley said some of the inspiration for storylines in her novel came from real-life experiences that when she recalled, lead people’s jaws to ‘hit the ground’.
‘I’ve worked with a brilliant writer called Sheila McClure and we’ve covered it all – bullying, backstabbing, dancers having sex in broom cupboards – all these things that I’ve seen, heard or witnessed,’ she added when speaking to Good Housekeeping.
She continued: ‘Don’t be fooled into thinking the dance industry is all baubles, bangles and beads!’
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One and iPlayer.
