Jason Derulo has been accused of sexual harassment by an aspiring singer who signed to his label.
Emaza Gibson has filed her complaint against Derulo in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming that the singer “maliciously” promised her success, then ended their working relationship after she denied his sexual advances.
“Mr. Derulo’s behavior toward this young artist was despicable,” Gibson’s attorney, Ron Zambrano, said in a statement. “He not only broke promises and breached contracts, but his threats of physical harm and unconscionable sexual advances toward this young woman who is just trying to break into the industry were outrageous and illegal.”
Gibson says she’s now suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Her complaint names Derulo’s manager, his Future History record label and Atlantic Records, another party to Gibson’s contract, as co-defendants.
She alleges they enabled the abusive behavior and did nothing when her deal was terminated without explanation on September 6th, 2022.
“I reached out for help, and I didn’t get that help. This has been scary the whole entire time. The aggressions, him charging toward me. I felt so unsafe, I had to get my parents involved,” Gibson says.
