Ana Navarro reacts to Jada Pinkett-Smith’s marriage revelation
Jada Pinkett Smith is dropping truth bombs right and left as she promotes her new memoir, Worthy.
Not only has the Red Table Talk host revealed that she and Will Smith have actually been separated since 2016, she also revealed that she bought her own engagement ring as a way of staying in “control” of the situation.
Just one day after the Fresh Prince of Bel Air star popped the question, Jada went straight to Harry Winston and picked out her own engagement ring – and paid for it too.
“By buying my own ring, I took some measure of control and sent the message to myself: All right, get with the program,” she writes in her memoir.

Her fear, she went on to explain, had nothing to do with Will.
Instead it had to do with “long-held belief that marriage wasn’t for me.”
She also reveals the circumstances in their lives at the time which could have been at the root of her fears.

Days prior to Will popping the question, Jada had told him that she was pregnant with their son Jaden.
“I’d been in the world enough to know how husbands and wives take each other for granted — far more than loving and appreciating each other. I did not want that. And I definitely wasn’t ready to make a lifelong commitment under a spiritual contract with God. This was a shoo-in to f–k up,” she shared.
She soon came to the conclusion that marriage or not, their child is what would bond her and Will for life.

Jada may have come around on the idea of marriage, but that didn’t stop her from wanting some form of control – hence the ring shopping.
Will and Jada wed on New Year’s Eve 1997 in her hometown of Baltimore.
Ten years later, Will replaced the ring that she had bought herself with a 10-carat rock from the jeweler Graff.
