LONDON is home to some of the most popular tourist attractions in the country, as well as some of the strangest.

London Mithraeum is located right underneath an office space in the heart of the English capital.

The museum is an ancient Roman Temple used by the Cult of Mithras – a mystery religion that was worshipped by Roman soldiers.

The ancient site was discovered in 1954 following a planned excavation, although is estimated to be nearly 1,800 years old.

During the dig, the marble head of a statue of Mithras was uncovered underneath the London rubble.

An extension of the dig was conducted, with further parts of the temple discovered.

In 2010 Bloomberg began constructing its new London headquarters, intending to return the ancient site to its former glory.

A statement on the Bloomberg website read: "The Bloomberg Arcade that will reinstate an ancient Roman travel route, and an anticipated cultural hub that will restore the Temple of Mithras to its original site."

Not only does the site house more than 600 Roman artefacts, it's also free to enter.

Even though the site is fairly small, the museum has received positive reviews on TripAdvisor.

One person wrote: "If you're in London, and in this area, then it is definitely worth a visit.

The museum is free of charge and fascinating.

Another said: "A fantastic exhibition of an early Roman temple, with a very atmospheric presentation in the basement."

Someone else wrote: "A nice, small, museum with a preserved temple.

"It's a cool 'experience' but it takes very little time to walk around, so not worth visiting just for the museum."

The ancient site is open five days a week between Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am to 6pm.

London Mithraeum is just a short walk from tube stations like Mansion House and Cannon Street.

London is also home to another unsuspecting tourist attraction that is growing in popularity.

The unassuming pink building has been seen on screen with the likes of Idris Elba, while it has also hosted Ralph Fiennes.

Plenty of people have probably walked past the house at 4 Princelet Street, in London's Spitalfields, without batting an eyelid.

However, the abandoned Georgian home is growing in popularity among visitors, who are drawn to its faded red door and window shutters with star shapes cut into them.

Meanwhile, this UK attraction has been compared to New York City by tourists.

And this natural phenomenon happens in autumn and winter in the UK – this is where you can see it.

</picture>FLATPACKERS
