The iconic bricks are perfect for adults and children as they promise hours of fun no matter your age. It originates from Denmark with several amusement parks across the globe.<\/p>\n

Now with Christmas creeping up, Lego is bound to be yet another top seller over the festive period. But while you know how to play with the toy, ever wondered about its name? <\/p>\n

The meaning behind its name is quite clever after being created back in 1932 by Danish carpenter Ole Kirk Kristiansen. He started making toy bricks from wood.<\/p>\n

Then four years later, he came up with the name "Lego" and an icon was officially born. The company has passed from dad to son and is now owned by the grandchild Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen.<\/p>\n

Lego is a combination of two Danish words: "Leg Godt", which means "Play Well". According to the company, Ole Kirk Kristiansen created the Lego name for his company \u2013 unaware the word in Latin means "I put together".<\/p>\n

It added: "He also considered the alternative Legio (legions) but in the end, he opted for the name that embodies high-quality play and commitment towards children's development through play."<\/p>\n

But a fire in the woodworking shop in 1942 forced a major change for the company.<\/p>\n
