He started making toy bricks from wood.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article31608780.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/0_The-Lego-store-brand-logo-seen-in-London-UK.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Then four years later, he came up with the name &quot;Lego&quot; and an icon was officially born. The company has passed from dad to son and is now owned by the grandchild Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen.<\/p>\n<p>Lego is a combination of two Danish words: &quot;Leg Godt&quot;, which means &quot;Play Well&quot;. According to the company, Ole Kirk Kristiansen created the Lego name for his company \u2013 unaware the word in Latin means &quot;I put together&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>It added: &quot;He also considered the alternative Legio (legions) but in the end, he opted for the name that embodies high-quality play and commitment towards children&apos;s development through play.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>But a fire in the woodworking shop in 1942 forced a major change for the company.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article31608785.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/0_Playing-with-Lego.jpg\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<figure data-mod=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.mirror.co.uk\/incoming\/article31607876.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s458\/0_image-4057738_Main.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p> &apos;World&apos;s hottest lawyer&apos; dubbed &apos;muse of beach&apos; as she thrills in cut-out swimsuit<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s2-prod.mirror.co.uk\/@trinitymirrordigital\/chameleon-branding\/publications\/dailystar\/img\/logo-schema-dailystar.png\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ole went onto order a plastic injection moulding machine from the UK and three years later, convinced his son Godtfred that plastic was the future.<\/p>\n<p>From then, Lego launched the &quot;automatic binding bricks&quot;. They were renamed as &quot;Lego Mursten&quot; or &quot;Lego Bricks&quot; in English with each one having the name stamped onto it.<\/p>\n<p>But another fire in 1960 destroyed Lego&apos;s wooden toy warehouse, after which it decided to stick to plastic to make its bricks. And the rest is history.<\/p>\n<p>Lego is one of Europe&apos;s biggest companies and is the largest toy manufacturer in the world by sales.
