FLIGHT attendants have revealed why they greet all passengers as they board the plane – and it isn't just about being<\/strong> polite.<\/p>\n Kat Kamalani, is an ex-flight attendant who often posts on TikTok sharing secrets of her former job.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In one video, she told her 745k followers what crew members are really doing when they greet you.<\/p>\n Flight attendants are said to be determining who is most fit to help out in case of an emergency.\u00a0<\/p>\n This is what\u00a0the industry terms\u00a0an ABP (or able-bodied person).<\/p>\n Kat said: "When you\u2019re walking on the plane and see our happy, smiley face we\u2019re actually looking you up and down and trying to find our ABPs (able bodied people),\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThis is people who are going to help us in an emergency.<\/p>\n These can be anything from military personnel to pilots, nurses, doctors, police, and firefighters.<\/p>\n That\u2019s not all attendants are looking for when they take in who\u2019s on their plane, however.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re also looking at one more thing,\u201d Kamalani goes on. Besides \u201clooking for things that don\u2019t belong on the plane\u201d \u2014 including disallowed liquids \u2014 attendants are checking for human trafficking. <\/p>\n <\/picture>CHECK OUT <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/picture>HOT ‘DAM <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/picture>OFF TRACK <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/picture>GO-NDOLA <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt happens a lot in the industry,\u201d Kamalani explained. \u201cOur passenger safety is our No. 1 priority, so we\u2019re just looking for things that look off.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n There were also some other things airline crew scout for when people board the plane.<\/p>\n Flight attendant Beth Bourneouf told the Washington Post: "We look to see how many bags people are carrying, and we also have to be conscious of what kind of bags they\u2019re carrying. <\/p>\n "Anyone with a cooler, we need to ask what\u2019s in there.\u201d<\/p>\n Then, there\u2019s the question of inebriation. <\/p>\n Eagle-eyed flight attendants will be able to tell if you\u2019re too tipsy to board by checking in on you with a quick \u201chello\u201d.<\/p>\n It comes as\u00a0a flight attendant revealed why giving passengers\u00a0a free seat upgrade could get cabin crew members fired.<\/p>\n Asking for\u00a0an upgrade\u00a0is always a big risk,\u00a0and not just for the passengers who are\u00a0gambling\u00a0for a better place to sit.<\/p>\n Elsewhere, a passenger was shamed by cabin crew for using a social media trick to secure empty row.<\/p>\n TikTok user Sophie, who is known as Boredsoap on the social media platform,\u00a0revealed in a video\u00a0that she'd been shamed by a member of the cabin crew for trying to keep the seat\u00a0next\u00a0to her free.<\/p>\n Meanwhile,\u00a0a flight attendant has revealed\u00a0how to get a first class upgrade for free – and it's all down to your choice of seat.<\/p>\n The airline worker took to\u00a0social media\u00a0to let customers in on a secret hack that could make their\u00a0trip\u00a0more enjoyable.<\/p>\nMost read in News Travel<\/h2>\n
