While smartphone users are virtually always given the option of whether or not to display read receipts, the feature has long been missing from Instagram DMs.<\/p>\n
The app is finally testing out a feature that allows users to turn off the \u201cseen\u201d message when they open a DM. Both CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Instagram head Adam Mosseri took to their Broadcast channels on the app to announce the beta version of the feature.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe heard your feedback and have started testing a new feature that lets you turn read receipts off in your DMs. Soon, people will be able to choose when to let others see when they\u2019ve read their messages,\u201d Mosseri wrote.<\/p>\n
Mosseri demonstrated how users will be able to head to the \u201cWho can see your activity\u201d section under the settings tab. From there, they\u2019ll be able to switch the tab so that read receipts are no longer shown.<\/p>\n
Users should note that vanish messages \u2013 those designed to disappear after being shown \u2013 will always show read receipts regardless of the setting.<\/p>\n
