Gardening: How to remove ivy from brickwork and trees<\/h3>\n

English ivy is a family of around 20 species of evergreen plants and, depending on their surroundings, can be both ground-creeping or climbing nearby trees, rocks, fences and pretty much anything else they can get wrap their stems around.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While it can be a popular choice for many gardeners, for others, it can be a thorn in their sides.<\/p>\n

Ivy can potentially attach to and damage property, and can also be harmful to children and pets, causing allergic skin reactions from mere touch.\u00a0<\/p>\n

To ensure gardeners can avoid all of these problems, Gene Caballero, co-founder of GreenPal, has shared how to eradicate this plant.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cDealing with English ivy can be quite a challenge due to its rapid growth and resilience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, here are some of the most effective ways to combat this persistent plant.\u201d<\/p>\n

1. Manual removal\u00a0<\/h3>\n

While this method requires physical labour, it’s the most environmentally friendly way to control English ivy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Start by cutting the ivy at the base with garden shears or a pruner and then pull out the vines.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gardeners should try to remove as much of the plant root as possible to \u201cprevent regrowth\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
