King Charles has decided upon a low-key celebration of his 75th birthday next month.<\/p>\n
But it is a milestone nonetheless – and to mark it the Royal Mint is to issue a\u00a0special commemorative \u00a35 coin.<\/span><\/p>\n The design features traditional heraldic imagery, but there are also references to the King’s interest in the environment and all things green.<\/span><\/p>\n The King\u2019s heraldic badge sits above the number 75 all framed within a pattern of oak leaves and his favourite flowers, delphiniums.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Royal Mint has issued a special commemorative \u00a35 coin in celebration of King Charles’s milestone 75th birthday, which falls on November 14<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The design of the coin combines traditional heraldic imagery with references to the King’s love of nature<\/p>\n The oak leaves symbolise the Monarch’s strength, morale, resistance and knowledge, while\u00a0delphiniums, his favourite garden flowers,\u00a0reflect his love of nature.<\/p>\n The coin also includes an inscription which reads: Restoring Harmony With Nature’.<\/p>\n Created by Royal Mint designer Dan Thorne,\u00a0 the coins were personally approved by the King.<\/p>\n \u00a0Mr Thorne said: ‘From concept through to the final model, I thoroughly enjoyed creating this piece\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘In honour of His Majesty, the design is based upon his love of nature and craft, whilst also referencing his various contributions towards the promotion of sustainability.’<\/p>\n ‘The new heraldic cypher is framed with oak leaves and delphiniums \u2013 both of which are of symbolic importance.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘Delphiniums are The King’s favourite flower and convey his connection with natural sustainability, whilst the oak leaves represent strength, morale, and knowledge.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n ‘The ’75’ was hand-drawn and modelled to simulate a stone-cut effect, in reference to The King’s ongoing support of the world of craft.’<\/p>\n This year’s commemorative coins are the first to bear His Majesty’s official portrait.<\/span><\/p>\n Rebecca Morgan, Divisional Director of the Collector Services at The Royal Mint said:\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘Each year The Royal Mint reveals a collection of coins, known as the Annual Set, which feature a range of designs that appear on \u00a35, \u00a32 and 50p coins marking some of the year’s most significant moments and anniversaries.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘This year is particularly special for The Royal Mint, as we unveil the first coins of 2023 bearing His Majesty King Charles III official coin portrait, which also includes a commemorative \u00a35 coin to celebrate His Majesty’s 75th birthday.’\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Created by Dan Thorne (pictured), a product designer at The Royal Mint, the coins were personally approved by The King before production began<\/p>\n <\/p>\n His Majesty’s 75th birthday coin is included in the Annual Set coin collection from the Royal Mint<\/p>\n ‘The Annual Set provides members of the public with an opportunity to collect the very first coins of 2023 with The King’s portrait and mark this historic transition in monarchy on coins.’<\/p>\nREAD MORE: The King’s bees and flowers mark biggest overhaul in coinage for decades!<\/h3>\n
