JUST a year after the world's biggest cruise ship is set to launch, another ship the same size will join it on the seas.

Work has already began on the vessel, which is due to launch in summer 2025, according to cruise line Royal Caribbean.

The company is already taking bookings for the world's biggest cruise ship Icon of the Seas, which is set to make its maiden voyage from Miami in January.

It will hold the title until at least the following summer when Star of the Seas matches it for size.

Icon has been described as a "theme park at sea" with six record-breaking waterslides in its on-board waterpark, seven pools and various other attractions for the 8,000 guests it can accommodate.

Details about what will be on Star of the Seas are currently being kept tightly under wraps, but Royal Caribbean claim "every kind of vacation" will be available.

In a press release, they revealed the ship's name and said: "The world’s largest cruise line will follow up Icon’s debut, the start of a new era of vacations, in the boldest way.

"With the combination of every kind of vacation that’s unique to Icon Class – from the beach retreat to the resort escape and the theme park adventure.

"The lineup of new experiences and favourites on Star will set the stage for even more ways for every type of family and adventurer to make memories without compromise. "

The ship is currently under construction in Turku, Finland and its features will be revealed in due course.

However, mocked-up images suggest it could share some of the features that guests will get to see on Icon when it sets sail in a few months.

For Star to rival its sister vessel, it will have to be at least 20 decks tall and the best part of 1200ft long.

Icon will also have more than 40 dining, bar and nightlife venues that will keep the thousands of passengers on board fed and entertained.

There will also be a swim up bar called "Swim and Tonic" while an "AquaDome" will allow guests to drink while soaking up wraparound ocean views near an indoor waterfall.

Eight separate neighbourhoods will be on board the ship across the 20 decks, including highlights like a sunken pirate ship on the top deck to the line’s largest ice arena elsewhere.

There will also be a "central park" with thousands of flowers, plants and trees as well.

The rooms available include staterooms, which span four decks, with a multi-level sundeck, its own pool and a two-level Coastal Kitchen restaurant, overlooking the all-glass AquaDome.

Families can stay in the three-storey-high Townhouse, which sleeps eight and comes with its own garden and slides from the bedroom to the living area.

However, a week’s stay there will cost £60,000 .

More affordable rooms include the infinite balcony rooms, which feature a retractable window, which turns the floor-to-ceiling glass window pane into a balcony.

There will also be sunset corner suites, which will have access to vast terraces overlooking the rear of the ship.

Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International, said: “The idea of combining the best of every type of vacation into one ultimate adventure has created more excitement than ever anticipated.

"Star of the Seas will be the next bold answer to the record-breaking consumer demand we’ve seen for nearly a year and counting with Icon of the Seas.”

Meanwhile, this couple live on a cruise ship and claim it's cheaper than living in a house.

And this cruise worker revealed what it's like to live on board a ship.

</picture>LINER LAW
