Queen Letizia and King Felipe of Spain\u00a0looked every inch the proud parents as they watched\u00a0Princess Leonor take part in her flag\u00a0swearing-in ceremony today.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Their 17-year-old daughter, who\u00a0heir to the Spanish throne and holds the title of Princess of Asturias, appeared regal in military uniform while standing in formation alongside her fellow cadets.<\/p>\n
The ceremony at the\u00a0Military Academy of Zaragoza was\u00a0presided by her father, King Felipe, 55, who was joined by Queen Letizia, 51.<\/p>\n
While the monarch wore his military uniform, his wife opted for a sleeveless blue and black polka dot dress which featured drop hem detailing and a cinched waist.<\/p>\n
As per tradition, the ceremony saw Leonor kiss the Spanish flag after swearing an oath of\u00a0allegiance to her King.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The princess,\u00a0who will be 18 at the end of this month, had spent all week rehearsing for four hours a day,\u00a0local media reported.<\/p>\n
Her sister, Infanta Sof\u00eda of Spain, 16, was notably absent from today’s event because she is studying at the UWC Atlantic College in the Welsh county of Vale of Glamorgan.<\/p>\n
The school is often referred to as ‘Hippie Hogwarts’ thanks to its progressive approach to education and picturesque castle setting.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Leonor’s\u00a0General Military Academy of Zaragoza, meanwhile,\u00a0follows a strict timetable during the week,\u00a0but the princess\u00a0 free to return home at the weekends if she’s not on manoeuvres.<\/p>\n

After training at the General Military Academy in Zaragoza, which is Spain’s equivalent to Sandhurst, she will go to naval school, and will complete her three years at the General Air Academy.<\/p>\n
The princess revealed her enthusiasm for being a cadet at the Princesa de Girona Foundation award ceremony in Girona, in Catalonia, on July 5.<\/p>\n
She said: ‘I have just finished high school and I am about to start a new stage with a period of military training.<\/p>\n
‘I am happy because I know how much the Spanish value our armed forces… it is an important moment in my life and I feel very excited and determined to continue learning and giving my best effort.’<\/p>\n
