He\u2019d spent ten years in the military, then did a stint in banking before working for 30 years in HR.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After decades of wearing suits Gary was baffled by how to do casual wear: \u2018I think I\u2019d become institutionalised and formal. I\u2019d go out and my mates would be in jeans and T-shirts and I\u2019d still be wearing a suit \u2013 a casual one!\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gary\u2019s son counted 42 in his dad\u2019s wardrobe: \u2018I want to give them all away to charity.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/22\/16\/75734467-12540535-image-a-107_1695397854257.jpg\" height=\"788\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>BEFORE:\u00a0After decades of wearing suits Gary was baffled by how to do casual wear<\/p>\n<p>For his most recent birthday, Gary\u2019s wife and daughter got him a pair of sliders and a backpack, both Louis Vuitton.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018God knows how much they paid! Watch, Gary\u2019s own<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I don\u2019t always like the clothes that I see in shops,\u2019 says Gary.<\/p>\n<p>But the shoot made him re-evaluate \u2018modern\u2019 fashion. Take the houndstooth coat: \u2018I wouldn\u2019t normally choose anything like that, but I really liked it when it was on. I\u2019ll wear it all the time now.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The shoot wasn\u2019t so bad, either. \u2018I was nervous at first but got used to it. Glasses, Roger\u2019s own<\/p>\n<p><span>SAM WALMSLEY, 34\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Works in admin<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/22\/16\/75734471-12540535-image-a-110_1695397919646.jpg\" height=\"788\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>BEFORE: Since he was 14, Sam has had long hair and worn jeans with band T-shirts<\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old always had a specific style. \u2018When I was 14 I saw a video of the band Metallica and I went: \u201cThat\u2019s me.\u2019\u2019\u2019 So he grew his hair long, acquired some denims and lots of band T-shirts.<\/p>\n<p>Two decades on, nothing\u2019s changed: \u2018I haven\u2019t had a proper haircut since then.\u2019 Prior to the YOU photoshoot, his entire wardrobe comprised blue or black jeans, checked shirts and lots of band T-shirts.<\/p>\n<p>A sartorial \u2018tag team of my missus and my mother\u2019 signed up Sam for the makeover.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Well, 20 years of dressing the same is a while. His mum and partner will, no doubt, be fans.<\/p>\n<p>And the clothes? \u2018I really like the fleece\u2019 but \u2018I\u2019m still unsure\u2019 of the navy shirt. Still, says Sam, \u2018it really is a new me. I even feel different physically.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This is a fresh start. I\u2019ve presented myself in a very set way for a long time. So I might use this as a way to explore new avenues: maybe keeping up with the healthy-eating plans which I start and give up, or finishing reading the books which I get three quarters of the way through.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;This is the catalyst. I worked as\u00a0a banker for many years, so I don\u2019t wear suits now. But I like casual clothes that are stylish \u2013 to a degree.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>So why does he think his partner Denise nominated him? \u2018Because she adores me, I suppose. My double breasted ones go back to the year dot.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Will the makeover change the way he shops for clothes in the future? \u2018I might be a little more adventurous. We\u2019ll see how the outfits go down first.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, the reaction so far has been positive: \u2018Denise loves them!\u2019 says Roger, happily.<\/p>\n<p>So will he wear\u00a0the clothes again?<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Yes, of course I will!\u2019 Where to? \u2018I\u2019ll be going to the golf club, to \u201cgolf club night\u201d, because nowadays it\u2019s very relaxed and casual.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I\u2019ll wear them out to dinner. I\u2019ll wear the suit to Denise\u2019s brother\u2019s 80th birthday party in a few months\u2019 time.\u00a0I\u2019ve got all this new gear. He opts for shorts between May and October<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I had a doctor\u2019s appointment today,\u2019 says Kevin, \u2018but my wife rearranged it and told me: \u201cYou\u2019re going to a photoshoot.\u2019\u2019\u2019 Clearly, this is serious business.<\/p>\n<p>The 62-year-old is sporty (he cycles 50km three times a week) and likes to dress in trainers, T-shirts and, \u2018from May to October I\u2019m in shorts\u2019. So why change?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I got diabetes about six months ago, so I lost weight from that. The wife keeps telling me I look better in clothes!\u2019 Plus, now none of his old things fit him.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This is not my kind of thing. I\u2019m very quiet. I usually stand at the back, not the front.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Kevin\u2019s wife Emma thought he might, secretly, quite like the makeover: \u2018I think she just wanted to inject a bit of sparkle. The patterned shirt looked daunting on the hanger.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I thought, I would never wear this.
