Fall is here, and that means one thing: sweet treats season is about to be upon us in full force. From back-to-school gatherings and bake sales to Halloween parties and holiday gifting, we’re always looking for new sweet recipes to try out for ourselves and share with family and friends this time of year. Thankfully Ree Drummond, author of The Pioneer Woman Cooks — Super Easy! (available at Target and Amazon), knows a thing or two about making sweet treats — after all, she has five kids. And when we saw her recipe for brownie truffles, we knew they’d be a total crowd-pleaser…and even easier when made with a store-bought shortcut.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=EbVsV0LVVuU%3Fversion%3D3%26rel%3D1%26showsearch%3D0%26showinfo%3D1%26iv_load_policy%3D1%26fs%3D1%26hl%3Den-US%26autohide%3D2%26wmode%3Dtransparent

The Pioneer Woman’s brownie truffles are made by first baking a pan of homemade brownies. This is where the shortcut comes in — you can use a box of brownie mix from the store. We promise it will be okay. The homemade brownies made with her recipe are certainly a delicious treat, but when you’re going to be blitzing them up anyway to make the truffles, why not make things easy on yourself and use a reliable store-bought boxed brownie mix? Or, you could even have a Sandra Lee moment and use store-bought brownies from the bakery section…the truffles will be Semi-Homemade but still totally delish.

Duncan Hines.

Once the brownies are baked and cooled, Drummond puts them in the food processor to break them up. She mixes in some softened cream cheese, which turns the brownie crumbs into a smooth, scoopable dough. Those are rolled into balls, then coated in dark chocolate and chopped pistachios to finish. But you can have a little fun with it, too — try adding toffee chips or chocolate chunks to the brownie mix before coating in chocolate, or coat the truffles in sprinkles, crushed Oreo cookies, or another favorite nut instead of pistachios.

William Morrow Cookbook.

The end result is an easy-to-make sweet dessert that can be made even easier with boxed brownie mix. These brownie truffles make for tasty edible gifts, and they’re bound to be a hit at family gatherings and more. Add your own twist, and you’ve got a signature dessert for the holiday season that won’t require hours in the kitchen.

Before you go, check out the gallery below:

Related story

Amazon Shoppers Say They Like This Set of Glass Storage Containers 'More Than Pyrex' & It's Nearly 50% Off Today

Watch: How to Make Sugar Cookie Berry Pizza
