A job listing at Santa Monica Studio demands knowledge of how the combat works in both of its recent God Of War games.

Although there’s no guarantee that Santa Monica Studio’s next game will be another God Of War project, it’s safe to assume that a new sequel or spin-off will happen eventually.

God Of War Ragnarök may have concluded the Norse saga, but aside from director Eric Williams’ eagerness to keep working on the series, God Of War is one of Sony’s premier franchises. It’s not going to abandon it when it’s such a guaranteed money maker.

Any new God Of War project probably won’t be formally announced for a while but the studio is already planning something new, as it’s started recruiting for what sounds like a very specific role.

The job listing in question is for a combat designer to work on an unannounced project. On its own, all the listing suggests that it’s for an action game of some kind.

However, the description states that applicants ‘must have knowledge of God Of War and God Of War Ragnarök and be able to speak in depth about the combat systems, mechanics, and enemies.’

It could be argued that the studio only wishes to use its experience with God Of War’s combat for something else, though that begs the question of why it would make a game that has similar combat to God Of War but isn’t actually part of the same franchise.

As for what a new God Of War could entail, some fan theories include a sequel set in Ancient Egypt sequel, since that was one of the original concepts for the 2018 game, or a spin-off focused on Kratos’ son Atreus.

While there’s no telling when the next God Of War will come out, the Amazon TV adaptation of the 2018 game could help plug the gap until then.

Then again, the show has no launch date either and overall details remain very slim, beyond Rafe Judkins, who developed Amazon’s The Wheel Of Time adaptation, acting as showrunner.
