A TRAVEL expert has revealed the best seaside town in England where holidaymakers have been flocking for over 400 years.

Travel writer Madeleine Bunting has spent the last two years visiting 40 coastal destinations across the country.

She documented her seaside adventures in her new book, The Seaside: England's Love Affair.

In a recent article in the Mail Online, she revealed her favorite seaside town.

She said: "[This is] such a tough question because I enjoyed so many of them but I think Scarborough is stunning and full of intriguing reminders of its glamorous past."

Set on the Yorkshire coast, Scarborough has been welcoming holidaymakers to its shores for over 400 years.

Scarborough is home to two beaches, North Bay Beach and South Bay Beach.

North Bay Beach is a long sandy beach where surfers and swimmers head to year-round.

South Bay Beach is a mere 20-minute walk away too.

If that walk is too far, open-top buses also run between the two beaches during the summer months.

</picture>

</picture>

</picture>

</picture>

Just like North Bay Beach, South Bay Beach is also sandy but comes with more traditional seaside attractions like donkey rides and a big wheel.

Classic seaside grub like fish and chips, cockles, and sticks of rock are also served there too.

For some more traditional seaside fun, holidaymakers should head to some of Scarborough's amusements like Coney Island and Olympia Leisure.

There are plenty of activities and attractions within a stone's skim of the beaches too, including the North Bay Railway (a miniature railway), the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, and Scarborough Sea Life Centre.

Holidaymakers can also book to ride on the Hispaniola Pirate Ship for just £3 per ticket – where they may even be able to spot dolphins and porpoises in the water.

Other nearby attractions include Peasholm Park and the ruins of Scarborough Castle.

There are plenty of places to eat in Scarborough too including Lookout on the Pier, which serves a range of seafood dishes including mussels, scampi, and crab.

The seaside town is also home to several pubs too including the Golden Ball, the Scarborough Arms, and the Scarborough Flyer.

There are a range of accommodation options available that will cater to every budget too.

One of those is The Toulson Court, which has been named the world’s best B&B by Tripadvisor.

The family-owned hotel came up trumps in the B&B accommodation category in TripAdvisor’s latest Traveller’s Choice Best of the Best Hotels poll, which analyses TripAdvisor review data from over 1.5 million hotels across the globe.

A one-night stay at the Mariner's House costs £90 per night based on two people sharing a room.

Holidaymakers can also pitch a tent from £11 at the Scarborough Camping and Caravanning Club.

Meanwhile, another northern seaside town has been nicknamed the Las Vegas of the UK and it has arcades, cabaret, and sandy beaches.

The traditional seaside town of Skegness has been likened to the American city for several years.

Meanwhile, one forgotten seaside town in the south of England has won praise from a former Bond girl – it has sandy beaches and ferry links to Europe.

Woman reveals what it's like to stay in the only IKEA hotel in the world
