UK travel agency Camptoo has reported a 176 per cent increase in bookings in the past month.

Ed Bassett, UK Country Manager at Camptoo, said: "We’re seeing significant demand for campervans and motorhomes right now, with site traffic at a record high over the past few days, and bookings coming in fast."

"We advise those hoping to book a UK staycation to start looking now, especially those wanting to head to the more popular tourist areas of the country."

Those keen to secure a camping spot can still find some cheap deals from £12 per stay.

Some of the best are:

  • Pitchup camping pitches in England from £12 per stay
  • Pitchup camping pitches in Kent from £24 per stay
  • Cool Camping pitches in Wales from £30 per stay
  • Cool Camping pitches in South-West England from £38 per stay
  • Park Holidays camping & touring breaks from £20 per stay
  • ParkDean camping holidays in Devon from £57 per stay
  • ParkDean camping holidays in Cornwall from £48 per stay
  • Camptoo campervan & motorhome hire from £105 per night

Although self-contained holiday accommodation can open from April 12, most campsites will be opening on the later date of May 17, as many have shared facilities such as wash rooms.

Demand for UK breaks has caused price hikes across accommodation types, particularly in popular holiday destination types.

Camptoo's Ed Bassett recommends those struggling to secure a camping spot "look at areas that aren’t typically as busy, to help ease pressures on the local environment and resources.

"Destinations such as Norfolk, Yorkshire and the South Coast all offer incredible countryside views and great campsites."
