WHAT’S IT LIKE? Pleasing mix of friendly local pub and stylish boutique hotel situated opposite Brook Green park, just ten minutes’ walk from Hammersmith Tube station in West London.
It’s been a hotel on and off since 1886 but has just been given a massive makeover by owners Young’s and it is ace. We stayed there on a Saturday night and the place was buzzing.
ROOMS ANY GOOD? Very much so. There are 17, all done up in trendy, individual William Morris prints. Each room has free wifi, Sky box, posh toiletries and an ironing board. Some even have his-and-hers washbasins.
EAT THERE OR GRAB A PIZZA? Definitely eat there. The restaurant serves typical pub dishes but done with flair and British ingredients.
The beer’s good and they have a cocktail bar in the basement with live music. Breakfast is full English, bacon-and-egg butties and a continental buffet.
WHAT ELSE? Hammersmith may seem like it is out of town but in reality Kensington High Street is only a couple of stops on the Tube. Plus you are near Westfield Shopping Centre. Hammersmith has loads going on and the hotel is near the Eventim Apollo and Shepherd’s Bush Empire.
SO YOU’D GO BACK? Absolutely. It is a great hotel and manages the trick of being near the action and away from the noise. Whether you are there for a meal, business or on holiday, it fits the bill. It is dog-friendly too.
WHAT’S THE DAMAGE? Rooms start from £109pp a night for two people sharing a double room. Includes breakfast.
