Is it turkey, or is it ice cream? In this case, it’s both! Baskin-Robbins has officially brought back its Thanksgiving Ice Cream Turkey Cake for 2018. As you may have guessed given its name, the popular dessert is an ice cream cake in the shape of a turkey that’s made to look almost exactly like the savory Thanksgiving staple.
Though the bird-themed cake has been a Baskin-Robbins staple since the 1970s, the turkey-shaped confections of recent years are strikingly similar to the real thing. For example, the 2018 version features a shiny, caramel-colored coat and sugar cone legs. The “turkey” is also surrounded by a green frosting decoration meant to look like a realistic garnish.
“Our unique dessert is sure to be the centerpiece of any holiday gathering,” the Baskin-Robbins website states. “This all ice cream cake with sugar cone legs can be customized with your guest’s favorite flavor.”
However, it appears this festive cake isn’t sold at all Baskin-Robbins stores. When one Twitter user lamented that she couldn’t track down the turkey-shaped dessert at her local outpost, the Massachusetts-based company chimed in, tweeting back, “The stores are all independently owned and operated franchises and product availability does vary. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your local store to see what they can make!”
Despite limited availability, social media users are generally psyched by the annual return of the Thanksgiving Ice Cream Turkey Cake, but at least one has remarked that the sweet bird looks a tad too realistic to eat. Check out some reactions below:
