Women are ditching traditional beauty treatments in favour of masking tape and wax in a bizarre new trend taking the world by storm.
Thousands of women in Asia are using the professional wax and a number of different products to ‘improve’ their facial features – and the results are so drastic they are barely recognisable afterwards.
American beauty YouTuber Promise Tamang uploaded a video tutorial on the trend which she said is particularly popular in China.

Promise said that when women take off their makeup they’re a ‘completely different person’ underneath – and she’s not wrong.
‘They go from zero to 100 real quick. The little secret is that it’s 80 per cent makeup and the rest is basically really fancy apps and filters,’ she said in a YouTube video.
When Promise recreated the look she started by using duct tape to amplify her jawline, which she said was ‘extremely uncomfortable’.
Although it felt like she was wearing a neck brace she noticed it did make her jawline more of a V-shape.

Next she put on a primer mixed with sunscreen which she said people in China use to make their skin look lighter.
This was followed by putting the wax along the ridge of her nose to create the illusion of it being skinnier.
Promise then went about putting on her makeup, which was inspired by beauty trends in Asia.
She used double eyelid tape to change the shape of her eye and create a temporary eyelid crease.
To change the shape and appearance of her eyes Promise used blue contacts as well as eyelid tape
This is a thin strip people are using to create a temporary crease, which is a very popular product in Korea where most people are born without naturally creased lids.
She also put in contacts to change her eye colour from brown to blue and make them look more round.
When she was finished Promise said she had the ‘V-shaped jawline, the taut nose and the big bright eyes’ that the trend aims to achieve.
To complete the transformation the beauty guru used a popular app to make her face look even skinnier.
‘My face looks like an alien now, it’s so tiny and my eyes look so big. I look like a doll and kind of like an ant too,’ she said.
