Celebrities are people too.
It is no secret that every celebrity has received some form of hate during their career. We live in a world where social media makes it easy for internet trolls to constantly spew hate toward certain individuals, celebrities a lot more most.
Actress Lili Reinhart has experienced that hate first hand and made the decision to leave Twitter for her own mental state.
Reinhart feels as though Twitter is a negative platform
Earlier this week, Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart took to Instagram to reveal that she was taking a break from Twitter due to constant hate comments.
The actress explained on Instagram stories how it’s extremely hard for her to deal with trolls and how not everyone can understand the toll these comments start to take on a person after awhile.
Reinhart and many other celebrities sadly receive hate comments on a daily basis and though some choose to ignore them, others have a hard time doing so.
The 22-year-old actress feels as though Twitter is not benefitting her anymore, instead the platform is starting to interfere with her mental health.
The actress will not let trolls get the best of her
This past Monday, Reinhart shared her feelings about internet trolls and how she is refusing to let them take over her life.
Lili Reinhart explained her reasoning behind leaving Twitter by writing on Instagram stories (that has since expired), “Unless you’re personally experiencing it, you could never understand how it feels to have thousands of people spewing hat at you constantly.”
She continued, “I am not taking a break from Twitter because of one person’s opinion. As a whole, that site is not good for my mental health, and it isn’t benefiting me anymore. THAT is why I’m taking a break.”
“And before you think about saying something ignorant like ‘she can’t handle criticism’…just try to imagine thousands of people sending you hateful, critical messages all day long, as if their opinion on your life matters,” Reinhart added. “Than ask yourself if you think being on Twitter would be a ‘healthy’ choice at that point.”
“Hate to break it to you online trolls: Spreading your hate and overall negativity online won’t make you any less miserable. K bye.”
Lili Reinhart recently spoke about “the good” in social media
Reinhart has utilized her social media platforms to differentiate herself from her Riverdale character.
Through social media, the actress has been candid about the flaws that make her the person she is today. She was able to use these platforms to be candid about her bullying, body dysmorphia, and mental health with fans.
With a following of 2 million on Twitter alone, Reinhart believed that being open on social media would be a perfect way to showcase that everyone has flaws, no matter if you are famous or not.

“As actors, musicians and people with a platform, we are so often called upon to be good role models and to set a good example. With the expectation of being perfect idols, our mistakes are often amplified, our choices are criticized, and our words are scrutinized. That notion scared me for the longest time, because I know I am not perfect, and I knew I was never going to live up to that perfect expectation. So, I wanted to present myself to the world without a filter, and that meant being honest about my own insecurities, my own shortcomings, and my own mistakes” the actress stated while taking the stage at Variety‘s Power of Young Hollywood event in West Hollywood.
Lili Reinhart is still active on her Instagram and Tumblr pages. Even though the actress has not deleted her Twitter, she is said to be keeping her word and is maintaining her hiatus.
