My sister is depressed after her dream wedding plans were ruined by Covid

DEAR DEIDRE: MY sister’s dream wedding plans were ruined by Covid and now she’s depressed.

I’m 30 and have always been a protective big brother to my little sister, who is 27.

She’s been dreaming of a big white wedding since we were tiny.

She and her fiance were supposed to be getting married last summer, but then the pandemic struck and the wedding had to be postponed.

It was moved to this summer, then cancelled when the third lockdown happened.

She won’t downsize it – she says she doesn’t want to do it if she can’t have all her friends and family there, and she is now despondent.

Our mum is upset too, as she really wanted to see her daughter get married.

How can I help her?

DEIDRE SAYS: She’s invested a lot of time and energy on her big day, so her disappointment is understandable.

She’s lucky to have such a kind and loving brother.

But all you can do is be there for her and let her talk about it when she wants to.

If she feels really down, encourage her to see her GP.
