It’s not unusual in 2021 to choose to raise your family vegan or vegetarian – many couples want to avoid environmental and health issues when raising their children.
This means that kids are often being brought up not eating meat or fish until they are old enough to choose whether they want to eat animals for themselves.
And, that was exactly the situation one mum found herself in after she and her husband agreed to raise their child vegan.
Except after they broke up she discovered he wasn’t holding up his end of the bargain.
Would you ever raise your child vegan? Tell us in the comments…
On Reddit, the mum said: “I became vegan when my ex and I moved in together because he was vegan and he didn't like there being animal products in the house
“I learned more about the way food was made and I agreed.
“I was vegan while I was pregnant and we've raised our daughter vegan for the past eight-ish years.”
Unfortunately, the couple broke up after he cheated on his wife, but they were co-parenting and trying to make decisions together.
Or, so the wife thought…
After picking up her daughter from her ex’s house her child said she was hungry, but refused an apple and asked for chicken nuggets when passing a McDonalds.
The woman wrote: "She has a full blown meltdown demanding chicken nuggets.
“We get home and she's, like, blowing snot bubbles she's so enraged.
“She howls her way through a bowl of leftover soup.
"She hates me, I'm a terrible mum, dad would have let her eat chicken nuggets.
“She wore herself out crying."
The next day, the little girl was anxious and kept asking her mum if she “hated her” for eating meat.
Th mum said: "I spent the entire drive to school reassuring her that I'm not angry with her but that I was surprised that she wanted them.
“I also reiterated I wasn't happy with her behaviour of screaming and hollering when she didn't get what she wanted.
"I understand that sometimes our emotions feel big but we have to try and be in control of them and not the other way around."
While the mum wasn’t mad at her child she was fuming at her ex.
She said: "I wasn't aware our hitherto vegan daughter was now eating meat and I feel like that's a decision that I should have been informed about.
"I called him after she went to bed and he told me I was being uptight and he didn't tell me because he knew I'd overreact, 'I'm controlling and I don't need to be privy to every single thing he does when our daughter is with him'."
The mum added: "I'm f***ing MAD.
“There are vegan options at McDonalds – he didn't have to feed her chicken but since he did, I would have appreciated a heads up.
“Also, for a dude who gave me a hard time for craving Oreos (which are f***ing vegan) while pregnant with her, kinda annoyed that he's shovelling c**p in her mouth hand over fist taking her to McDonalds every week."

The responses she got online were somewhat mixed, but the woman came back with an update.
She said: "So the kiddo experimented with meat some.
“We were actually kind of fortunate this happened before quarantine and lockdowns because we could still visit my parents who are meat-eaters and who do cook that kind of food and give her some better options to choose from.”
Now, she claims the little girl loves eggs and they cook them together twice a week.
They eat mostly plant based at home, but on Saturdays they go out for breakfast and the little girl can order anything she likes.
