McDonald’s fans are fuming as the burger chain has announced that two popular items will be axed from UK menus this week.

Posting on the official McDonald’s UK Twitter page, the company stated that breakfast bagels and breakfast wraps would no longer be sold at restaurants.

In a statement, the American food giant highlighted that hungry Brits can still get their iconic McMuffins, but that the bagels and wraps were officially off the menu.

And, they’ve made McMuffins 99p every Monday if you order through the app.

The Twitter account shared a snap of a statement explaining the reasons and captioned it: “Bad news: Bagels and Breakfast Wraps are officially gone from the menu.

“Good news: You can get a McMuffin for 99p today via the McDonald’s App…

“…you’re still thinking about the bad news, aren't you?”

Attached to the tweet was a statement that read: “It is with love and deep respect for one another that we announce that we are parting ways with Breakfast Bagels & Breakfast Wraps.

“Despite speculation and following a trial separation period, Breakfast Bagels & Breakfast Wraps will not be returning to the menu.

“We adore each other deeply but our love for the iconic McMuffin was simply too hard to ignore.

“We want our fans to know this is a marital decision, to the extent that a bagel can make its own decision.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported our union.

“As for the rumour that there will be a new breakfast bae on the scene later this year… no comment.”

It added: “But it’s now time to say, ‘that’s a wrap’. And bagel.

“And that the McMuffin is 99p today.”

In the background of the statement were photos of the bagels and wraps plus a broken heart emoji.

But, people were raging in the comments of the Twitter post.

One customer said: “So you get rid of the wrap (best thing on the breakfast menu) and keep the flatbread, which is honestly, the biggest insult to the word ‘food’ in the history of mankind. “

While another added: “This is the actual worst decision you’ve ever made. Sausage egg and cheese bagels were officially the best thing on your menu.”

A third fumed: “Actually wait, I am mad…”

While still more asked for the reason that the items were being removed.

One fan said: “Can you at least tell us why they aren't coming back? You removed them when you re-opened after the first lockdown.

“We assumed it was due to space in the kitchen. Please kindly let us know the reason.”

Another shared their theory as to why they weren’t coming back and noted: “Wraps and Bagels used folded eggs, which was pasteurised egg poured into moulds on the grill.

“This was a huge pain in the a**, you could only cook 6-12 at a time. Also, if sausage runs low, you’re only using half the grill space and sausage is in everything.”

In the replies, McDonald’s simply said: “There was never a good time to tell you… but we do have 99p McMuffin Mondays, so.”
