Lidl introduce their brand new Plus mobile app
Lidl has implemented various different rules and regulations over the past year to help stop the spread of coronavirus. The supermarket was one of the first to install a traffic light system to manage the number of customers in-stores and in a recent letter to customers, Lidl CEO Christian Härtnagel shared its latest shopping rules.
The letter read: “At Lidl GB, safety remains our number one priority and we have taken additional measures across the vast majority of our stores to ensure you and our colleagues remain safe.
“This includes positioning security guards at store entrances to regulate customer numbers and to remind those not wearing a face covering, and who are not exempt, of their responsibility to keep themselves and others safe.”
Customers who have forgotten their face mask can pick one up at the entrances to Lidl stores, and can then be purchased when you complete your shop.
Colleagues in the supermarket will also be wearing a face mask if they are not exempt.

Mr Härtnagel also urged customers to shop alone if they can do so.
He said: “Additionally I would ask that if you are able to do so, please do try to shop alone.
“This will reduce the number of people in store and help maintain social distancing.
“By working together, we can ensure everyone is protected and can shop in a safe environment.”

Customers are also asked to shop when the stores tend to be less busy to help prevent queues building up outside.
The store tends to be busiest in the morning between 8am to 11am and quietest from 2pm onwards.
The website said: “Of course some stores will slightly vary, and make sure you check your local store opening hours too.”
Shoppers can also expect to see changes to the in-store bakery to help stop the spread of germs.
This includes disposable gloves instead of tongs placed next to bakery items to ensure that the risk of spreading germs is minimised.
The website added: “The next time you show with us, you’ll notice we’ve put trolley and basket cleaning stations in place, along with antiviral disinfectant and hand sanitiser for sanitising your hands.
“We’d like to ask you to please clean your basket or trolley before you shop.”
Lidl also has floor markings to help customers socially distancing as well as an audio system designed to remind shoppers to adhere to the protective measures in place to help everyone stay safe.
In other supermarket news, rival retailer Aldi is asking customers to shop alone where they can to help reduce the number of people inside at any one time.
Aldi CEO, Giles Hurley regularly updates customers with the latest shopping rules.
In his most recent letter, Mr Hurley explained that shoppers will be challenged if they are not wearing a face mask.
A statement on the website reads: “To ensure the safety of our customers and colleagues, it is mandatory for all customers (with certain exceptions) shopping in our stores to wear a face covering for the duration of their visit.
“Those who refuse to wear a face covering, without medical exemption, will not be allowed in store.”
Customers are also urged to shop considerately and are told that there is no need to stockpile or panic buy.
Mr Hurley added: “In order to help with social distancing, we are encouraging all customers to try and reduce the number of family members they bring with them into our stores.
“Where necessary we are using discretion, but like all supermarkets we’re asking people to come alone if possible to support social distancing in our stores.”
