Kate Middleton turned 40 this weekend, and shared her stunning portraits on social media to celebrate the momentous occasion, and it wasn't long before the gorgeous snaps went viral.
The trio of photographs, taken by Paolo Roversi for the National Portrait Gallery, have already gathered over 5 million combined likes on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's shared Instagram account.
Now jewellery experts can reveal that the earrings Kate is seen wearing are estimated to be worth an impressive "£2.5 million", making them potentially one of the most expensive jewellery pieces Kate Middleton has worn thus far.
The earrings that the Duchess of Cambridge wears in the portrait are diamond pearl drop earrings and are thought to be a part of Princess Diana’s personal collection, another tribute to the late Princess.

Experts from H&T Pawnbrokers say "The earrings are from Diana's personal collection which would mean they were purchased most likely from Garrards the Crown Jeweler at the time and they consist of Diamond and Cultured pearls rather than Diamond and Natural Pearls that you would expect from the Royal collection.
"A pair of Diamond and cultured Pearl drop penelope earrings would cost normally £20,000-£25,000. However, with the Diana and now Catherine effect, I believe these earrings would be valued at ten times that figure.
"The earrings consist of very large, very rare natural oriental saltwater pearls and are from the Royal collection so the price tag is large so you can ten times that figure again.
"The earrings would be valued up to an incredible £2.5 million making the jewellery one of the more expensive pieces Kate Middleton has worn."
For the other two images, Kate Middleton wears earrings from Queen Elizabeth's collection, wearing diamond drop earrings she borrowed from her highness for the stunning looks.
Kate continues to pay homage to her late mother-in-law Lady Diana by wearing her oval-cut sapphire ring which was originally worn by Diana when she got engaged to Prince Charles in 1981.
Instagram users were quick to comment their marvel over Kate's beautiful birthday look, with comments rolling in quick and fast including: "Queen! Gorgeous! Stunning! Beautiful! This is exactly what we have been begging for!!!" and:"Stunning! Love how Princess Diana's ring is shown prominently too. Happy birthday!"
