While some members of the British Royal Family are suffering under the weight of the spotlight — Kate Middleton, who has been in the orbit of the royal family for nearly 20 years, is absolutely thriving. Despite the feud between her husband, Prince William, and his brother, Prince Harry — the Duchess of Cambridge has not let that deter her success and her popularity as a high-ranking royal.
Much of the spotlight has been on Middleton’s sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, who has openly struggled with adjusting to royal life. However, Middleton has remained a steady force, even in the wake of her own scandals. In spring 2019 —Prince William was accused of having an affair with Middleton’s friend, Rose Hanbury. Though the rumors were proven to be wrong, it was still a storm the mother of three had to weather.
Now, it looks like Middleton, who has taken a more traditional approach to royal life, is ready to make her voice heard in a very modern and unconventional way.
Kate Middleton is working on a secret project with BBC
Last week, the Duchess of Cambridge went to a top-secret meeting with the BBC. Rumors immediately began to swirl that Middleton was working on a TV project. There haven’t been many details about the meeting or what the possible project could be about. Still, royal fans did get a hint about what’s to come.
Richard Eden, a royal correspondent at the Daily Mail, revealed, “Kate held private talks with BBC director-general Tony Hall at Broadcasting House in London on Thursday.” When Daily Mail reached out to Hall’s camp to ask for more details — the BBC responded by saying, “It wouldn’t be appropriate to discuss the content of the meeting.”
What would Kate Middleton’s BBC TV show be about?
Though details about Middleton’s project with BBC are extremely sparse –we did get a slight hint from Kensington Palace about the duchess’ potential show or series. When U.K.’s Express reached out to Kensington Palace for more details about Middleton’s BBC meeting, the Palace responded by saying that the meeting was related to the duchess’ role as patron of the Royal Foundation.
To that end, we can all assume that any TV show Middleton might have with the BBC is one having to do with one of her charities.
The British Royal Family is getting in to TV
Though the royals have had representation on TV here and there with their documentaries and Sarah Ferguson’s guest appearance on Friends — TV is relatively new terrain for the royals.
In April 2019 –news broke that Prince Harry was teaming up with Oprah Winfrey for a new Apple TV + series around mental health. In September 2019, the prince shared more details on Instagram saying,
I truly believe that good mental health — mental fitness — is the key to a powerful leadership, productive communities and a purpose-driven self. It is a huge responsibility to get this right as we bring you the facts, the science and the awareness of a subject that is so relevant during these times. Our hope is that this series will be positive, enlightening and inclusive — sharing global stories of unparalleled human spirit fighting back from the darkest places, and the opportunity for us to understand ourselves and those around us better.
We’re excited for both Middleton and Prince Harry’s TV shows.
