Is Ariana Grande’s new single, ‘Imagine,’ about Mac Miller?

The world has yet to recover from her record-breaking last single, but Ariana Grande is already saying, “Thank U, Next.”

The pint-size pop powerhouse dropped her soaring new track, “Imagine,” at midnight on Twitter, Spotify and YouTube, where its lyric video quickly racked up more than 2.5 million views.

But is this pulsating, slow-burn bop about her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller? Her diehard fans certainly think so. The Twitterverse lit up with theories after Grande, 25, tweeted a link to “Imagine” — with many “Arianators” pointing out that the late rapper had “Imagine” tattooed on his bicep.

And then there was this telling little tie-in about their shared love of takeout cuisine:

While Grande’s fans debated various lyrical conspiracy theories, Billboard’s 2018 Woman of the Year winner took to Instagram to discuss potential meanings behind the music: “A lot of this album mourns failed yet important, beautiful relationships in my life (as well as celebrates growth/exploring new independence). But for those of you asking about ‘Imagine’: I would say if ‘Thank U, Next’ = acceptance … ‘Imagine’ = denial. Hope that makes sense.”

Miller died from an accidental overdose of fentanyl and cocaine in September. He was 26 years old. Last week, Grande acknowledged that “this has been one of the best years of my career and the worst of my life.”
