Inside wine-stained lips trend with over 12 million TikTok views – featuring £9.99 tints

We do love ourselves a good makeup trend, and wine-stained lips are the current look of the moment taking over social media.

Both berry and wine toned lips are seriously wearable in winter, so it’s no surprise that this new take on the trend is proving to be a big hit on TikTok just before Christmas.

As the name suggests, these looks involve recreating that wine-red, blurry-edged tint that is usually left behind after a nice glass of the rouge stuff.

“Wine lip tints” currently have more than 12 million views on TikTok, with most of the viral videos seeing users trial a fun lip product that comes in actual miniature wine bottle packaging. Aliver Wine Lip Tints cost just £9.99 here for a set of six.

One video by creator @rachelrigler has racked up more than seven million views alone using the fun wine bottle tints.

"Look how stinking cute that is," she says of the packaging before using the shade Merlot to create the perfect blurred-out finish. Using her fingers, she also demonstrates that the bargain buys have serious staying power and barely transfer.

Another innovative TikTok hack with more than six million likes suggests using a dental floss stick to create the perfect blurred wine stained lip.

Applied to a base of concealer, tint is then applied with floss to create an outline before lipstick is layered over the top. The edges are then blended using a cotton bud for that perfectly diffused blurry edge.

The key to any great lip look is of course smooth and well moisturised lips. Prep your canvas by using a lip scrub like Barry M, £4.99 here, and keeping one of the best lip balms handy.

If you’d rather stick to a big name brand for your wine-toned lip tint there are loads of great options out there, but we love NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment, £23 here, or Fenty Stunna Lip Paint, £20 here.

Some formulas, like MAC Powder Kiss lipsticks, £19.50 here, were even designed specifically to create that coveted blurred-out finish.

What do you reckon: will you be giving this trend a go, or simply sticking to *actual* red wine?
