Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle are enjoying their last few days of vacation bliss until they return to their royal duties in the U.K. in 2020. The Sussexes have been on hiatus for the past six weeks, spending time together and with their infant son, Archie Harrison, for the holiday season.
Escaping the royal spotlight and the hustle and bustle of their lives in London — the pair have been spotted vacationing on Vancouver Island in Canada. The private island has allowed the royal couple a fair bit of autonomy as they reconnect with one another. Their loved ones, like Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, have also dropped by.
Though the pair have been hiking, jogging, and taking in the sites, their living accommodations have been plush and lavish.

This evening, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the annual #WellChildAwards in London. WellChild aims to ensure every child and young person living with serious health needs has the best chance to thrive with the support and medical care needed in the comfort of their own home. The Duke of Sussex became Patron of WellChild in 2007, and last year both The Duke and Duchess attended the awards to honour the children and families that WellChild supports. The Duke, who first came to these awards over a decade ago, shared in his remarks tonight: “Last year when my wife and I attended we knew we were expecting our first child – no one else did at the time, but we did – and I remember squeezing Meghan’s hand so tightly during the awards, both of us thinking what it would be like to be parents one day, and more so, what it would be like to do everything we could to protect and help our child should they be born with immediate challenges or become unwell over time. And now, as parents, being here and speaking to all of you pulls at my heart strings in a way I could have never understood until I had a child of my own.” • To find out more about tonight’s event and how you can support this very special organisation, please visit @WellChild Photos ©️ PA images
This is why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to vacation in Canada
Prior to meeting Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex was an actress starring on the hit drama series, Suits. The show filmed in Toronto, Canada, a city that became a second home for Markle. When she and the prince began dating, they were able to keep their romance under wraps. As a result, the country has always been extra special for the duo.
“As has been reported, Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are spending private time in Canada,” a royal spokesperson confirmed to Royal reporter Omid Scobie. “The decision to base themselves in Canada reflects the importance of this Commonwealth country to them both. Whilst this emails confirms the country they are taking their family time in, for security reasons we will not be releasing any further details and request that their privacy is respected.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been enjoying the Canadian outdoors
Having privacy has allowed the Sussexes to be more carefree. Residents of Vancouver Island have spotted them hiking and jogging. “Horth Hill’s become a very popular place now. And they jog around, so they’ve been seen,” Deep Cove Chalet co-owner Bev Koffel said. “It’s kind of exciting. I hope everything goes fine for them. They’re breaking away from tradition and I just wish them all the best.”
Thankfully, everyone has been very respectful of the duke and duchess so no photos have leaked.
