I haven't missed my girlfriend at all in lockdown – should I be worried?

DEAR DEIDRE: MY relationship has been savaged over the past year.

I’m a 30-year-old man, and I have mostly been shielding because of a health condition.

It means I’ve barely seen, let alone kissed or touched my girlfriend, who is 32, for an entire year.

We message, speak and text every day but we have run out of things to talk about.

If I’m honest, I don’t feel I’m missing her.

But we have been together for three years and were very happy before the pandemic. We were even thinking of getting engaged.

Sometimes I think I might be depressed and it’s making me push her away.

Or maybe we’re just not right for each other?

DEIDRE SAYS: The pandemic has been a challenging time for many couples.

It does sound like you might be depressed, so please talk to your doctor.

Perhaps if you get support with this, your old feelings for your girlfriend will return, but that could take time.

What did you do together before all the lockdowns? It might be a good step to slowly reintroduce the elements of life you used to enjoy.

Don’t put yourself under pressure. There are many people for whom the easing of restrictions is a challenge in itself.
