Grieving mum tells how newborn son died suddenly at home a day after birth

A devastated mother has spoken of her heartache after her newborn baby tragically died suddenly at home – just a day after being born.

Natalie Needham, 32, woke on July 21 to discover her "beautiful boy" Kouper was not breathing, and frantically carried out CPR as emergency services rushed to the home.

Doctors and paramedics battled to save the infant but sadly nothing could be done to save him.

It is not known how Kouper, who weighed 7lbs 10oz, died.

Mrs Needham and her husband Dave, of Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, now have an agonising eight-month wait until an inquest can be held to determine the cause of Kouper's death.

Mrs Needham said: "He was a gorgeous boy. He looked just like my other two boys. If you put their baby pictures together it looked like triplets.

"He was born healthy, everything was fine from what we could see. We got him home at about 4pm on the Saturday."

Kouper was born on July 20 at 1.44am.

The family got home from the hospital at 8pm and put the children to bed.

Dave woke up at 12.30am to the sound of Kouper crying and settled him back to sleep at 2.30am.

But when he returned to check on him at 5.45am he found his son was not breathing.

Mrs Needham said: "As a mother it was the hardest thing to do in the world. You never think you are going to have to do it on your own child."
