While celebrations are underway for a certain prince’s 70th birthday in London, the Swedish royals put on a glittering soirée of their own in Stockholm last night.

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and her sister-in-law Sofia put their best foot forward on Tuesday evening as they welcomed the President of Italy and his daughter with a glittering state banquet.

The future queen, 41, accompanied by her husband Prince Daniel, dazzled in a floor-length emerald gown paired with an emerald necklace which complimented her ceremonial green sash.

Former model Sofia, 33, opted for a striking pale grey dress with a satin top featuring a bateau neckline and lace skirt as she arrived on the arm of Victoria’s brother Prince Carl Philip, 39, for the dinner, hosted by Queen Silvia and King Carl Gustaf..

Both women and their husbands wore the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic as a nod to their guests – President Sergio Mattarella and his daughter Laura – teamed with dazzling tiaras as they arrived at Stockholm’s Royal Palace.

It was revealed last week that the Swedish royals would not be attending the Prince of Wales’ birthday dinner, hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace tonight, due to the Italian state visit.

Sofia framed her face with her brunette tendrils, while Victoria chose a slick up do with a side parting. The mother-of-two, who gave birth to Prince Gabriel last August, opted for a smoky eye and barely-there lipstick.

Walking arm-in-arm with Prince Daniel, who looked suave at the white-tie event, Victoria accessorized with a silver clutch bag and large diamond earrings. Sofia also kept her jewellery to a minimum, wearing a small silver bracelet, pearl earrings and a petite crown.

Queen Silvia wore a bright purple dress and floor length shawl for the event, and also chose a silver clutch.

It’s been a busy time for Victoria and her husband Daniel, 45, who last month visited Jordan to raise the UNs sustainability goals with a focus on equality and climate and humanitarian issues.

They hiked in Amman and took part in Eco Peace talks about their work on improving water conservation in the Jordan River and the challenges of the sinking water level.

The royal couple also visited Pau, in south-west France, along with King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, in early October.

The royals were there to mark the 200th jubilee of the House of Bernadotte, the ruling dynasty in Sweden.

Who’s who in the Swedish royal family?

King Carl XVI Gustaf (born in 1946) and Queen Silvia (born in 1943) are the head of the Swedish royal family, also known as the House of Bernadotte.

Crown Princess Victoria, Duchess of Västergötland (born in 1977), is their eldest daughter and heir to the throne. She is married to Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland, and they have Princess Estelle, Duchess of Östergötland, born 2012, and Prince Oscar, Duke of Skåne, born 2016.

Their eldest son is Prince Carl Philip, Duke of Värmland (born 1979). He is married to Princess Sofia, Duchess of Värmland, and they have Prince Alexander, Duke of Södermanland, born 2016, and Prince Gabriel, born in 2017.

Their youngest daughter is Princess Madeleine, Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland, born 1982, who is married to Christopher O’Neill. They have Princess Leonore, Duchess of Gotland, and Prince Nicolas, Duke of Ångermanland, born 2015. The couple, based in London, are expecting their third child in March 2018.

Princess Birgitta is also a member of the Royal House. She is the King’s second sister and the widow of Prince Johann Georg of Hohenzollern.

Princess Margaretha, Mrs. Ambler, the King’s first sister, and his third sister, Princess Désirée, Baroness Silfverschiöld, who is married to Baron Niclas Silfverschiöld, and Princess Christina, Mrs. Magnuson, who is the King’s fourth sister and married to Consul General Tord Magnuson, are also members of the Royal Family.

The King’s aunts, Marianne Bernadotte, Countess of Wisborg, and Gunnila Bernadotte, Countess of Wisborg, are also listed.
