Britain has been hit with record-breaking temperatures in recent days, and the summer heatwave is not over yet. Hot weather warnings have been issued for the first time in the country, therefore it’s important to keep both yourself and your pets safe.

B&M has announced the launch of a brand-new product that shoppers are saying helps keep pets cool on hot days.

Soaring temperatures can be insufferable for pets and even fatal in some cases.

Dogs need plenty of shade during hot weather, and more often than not prefer to lie down or sleep when the heat gets too much.

B&M’s mat is designed to cool dogs down when lied upon.

Costing £5, the mat is circular and features an orange and yellow print.

B&M shared an image of the product with a dog lying on it on its Instagram this week.

The discount retailer said: “It’s important to keep your pup cool on days like this!!

“It can be very warm under all of that fur.”

As well as cooing over the picture of the dog, customers who had already bought the cooling mat expressed their opinions of it in the comments.

Many shoppers praised the mat, claiming it works for both humans and dogs.

One customer wrote: “I use this at night for my hot flushes. Stick my feet on it and cools me down. A God send.”

Another shopper said: “We’ve got three different designs spread out across the house and garden, our pup loves them!”

Some customers couldn’t wait to get their hands on the new product. One person said: “This is what Rosie needs!”

Another person wrote: “This is where we need to go.”

One person joked: “Never mind the pets, I need one.”

However, some commenters seemed to be unimpressed with the mat. One person wrote: “Ours has split. What a waste of money and dangerous for our dog. Haven’t had it long.”

Another person commented: “If only my dog actually liked his cool mat. Avoid it at all costs.”

The RSPCA has outlined multiple ways to keep your dog cool during this summer’s heatwave.

The charity warned to “never” leave animals in cars, conservatories, outbuildings or caravans on a warm day, even if it’s just for a short while.

It recommended using a pet-safe sun cream on exposed parts of your pet’s skin, and providing it plenty of shade and constant access to cold water.

You can help pets to cool down by putting ice cubes in their water bowl and by giving them damp towels to lie on.

If your dog needs to exercise, take it only for a short walk and during the cooler parts of the day, such as the morning.
