Ziggy (Sophie Dillman) and Dean (Patrick O’Connor) are getting into the swing of parenting, and Ziggy has been pleased to find that she’s starting to bond with her daughter. The pair are learning as they go and Ziggy is trusting her instincts as a mother. However, it isn’t long before the pair face their first parenting crisis.
When Izzy is fussing more than usual, Ziggy feels her forehead and tells Dean that the baby is unusually warm. She suspects something is wrong and demands that Dean gets the car ready – they need to go to the hospital and get Izzy checked out.
They rush to the emergency department, only to receive frustrating news – the doctors can’t find anything wrong with Izzy. The pair return home, but while Dean is happy to take the doctors’ word and carry on as normal, Ziggy is convinced the medical professionals were wrong.
Not willing to be dismissed by the hospital as neurotic first-time parents, Ziggy tells Dean there is definitely something up with their daughter and she won’t take no for an answer. Taking her first protective stance as a mother, Ziggy heads back to the hospital, Dean in tow – and she is pleased to see that Bree (Juliet Godwin) is working.
Fortunately, Bree agrees that Izzy has a temperature and runs some tests. She can’t figure out what the condition could be and recommends some bloodwork. Behind the curtains, Bree tells Dean that if the tests are inconclusive they’ll have to do a lumbar puncture to check for meningitis…
