There’s no denying that 2020 has been a big one for baking and cooking in general.
The UK’s most searched for recipes for 2020 have been revealed in Google’s Year in Search results – and it’s hardly surprising that bread features heavily in the top five.
Lockdown provided us with a lot more time on our hands and the sourdough loaves and banana breads shortly followed. It therefore makes sense that bread scooped the top spot for the most Googled recipe of the year.
As we spend more time at home, it seems lots of us have been turning to comfort food in 2020, as placing second was ‘Beef bourguignon recipe.’
Interestingly, the third most Googled recipe of 2020 was for ‘school cake’ – the sponge traybake with icing and sprinkles that lots of children are given in school canteens.
It’s likely this recipe has risen in popularity due its simplicity – or the fact that parents looked to make a familiar dessert for their kids, whilst they were out of school earlier this year.
In fourth position was ‘KFC recipe’ which we can only assume was people trying to make their favourite fried chicken at home, when the fast food chain closed its doors earlier this year.
And in fifth place, it’s no surprise that that ‘white bread recipe’ followed in the UK rankings – along with ‘sourdough starter recipe’ which came in at number eight.
Elsewhere in the top 10, ‘Wagamama Katsu Curry recipe’ and ‘IKEA meatballs recipe’ also featured – cementing the trend of people trying to recreate their favourite restaurant meals at home throughout the course of the year.
