Steakhouses in London that rival Salt Bae’s Nusr-Et restaurant

It’s hard to imagine a world, or rather an Instagram feed, without the existence of Salt Bae. Born Nusret Gökçe, the acclaimed chef and Instagram star shot to fame after his initial video clip went viral on the app in 2017 racking up in excess of more than 6.3 million views during the first year after posting. 

He is of course instantly recognisable with his tight white t-shirts, long black hair slicked back into a bun, dark circular sunglasses and always on hand with a rather unique trademark salt sprinkling manoeuvre.

He is the co-owner of Nusr-Et, the steakhouse chain named after himself of course.

It’s a million dollar empire with 400 employees according to the Turkish media. He has restaurants all over the world but his latest establishment can be found in Knightsbridge, London.

Whilst you can expect the best quality meat paired with service that’s practically a show in itself, some diners have been left feeling a little out of pocket after facing sky high prices.

At Nusr-Et, A 24-carat gold tomahawk steak will set you back £850, it’s £18 for a side of mashed potato and even £11 for a singular Red Bull. 

Some may argue that the price points are in place for a reason due to the theatrical experience but there are a wealth of other highly regarded steakhouses in London that rival the newest kid on the block.

Hawksmoor Seven Dials 

This establishment is more dressed-down than out to impress. The interiors are all wood and leather with a rather rustic feel, somewhere where all of the attention is on serving great food. 

There are other London branches of Hawksmoor but the Seven Dials venue seems to reign ever more popular.   

Expect British-reared beef, mouth watering steaks and cuts served by the weight. 

The Coal Shed

A welcoming, cosy venue awaits you at The Coal Shed. Sizzling steaks and fish cooked over coals are their speciality whilst prime rib, porterhouse, ribeye and additional cuts are sourced from family-run farms. 

Sharing steaks is an extra treat if you’re there with a special someone.

High Timber

Think modern art, a great view and wines courtesy of High Timber’s South African owners as you dine Thames-side.

Ribeyes and fillets are crafted from 28-day matured Cumbrian beef, accompanied by delectable sauces.

Flat Iron

Flat Iron is a small chain with locations in Shoreditch, London Bridge, Spitalfields, Notting Hill, Soho, Covent Garden, Marylebone and King’s Cross all with an industrial aesthetic.

Sirloin is a winning order here but also make sure that you keep an eye out for the special cuts that grace the menu. There’s even free salted caramel ice cream at both the Covent Garden and King’s Cross branches.

Bob Bob Ricard 

Bob Bob Ricard is the most luxurious and therefore most expensive of the bunch but it appears to be somewhat affordable when compared to some of Nusr-Et’s dishes.

This Soho hotspot features decadent decor, including the iconic ‘press for champagne’ buttons that spread across Pinterest like wildfire a few years ago.

The Anglo-Russian menu of course offers steaks galore, including a luxurious chateaubriand no less.
