The best gadgets to help you get fit and nail varnishes to complete your look – The Sun

SOME could argue that mobile phones can cause us to be unfit as we sit around using them constantly. But now there are so many ways they can improve our health and fitness.

Today we have looked at gadgets that you can link to your phone and tested nail varnishes.

Portable workout device

  • Activ5 Portable Smart Device, £119.99 – buy now

The Activ5 doesn't look like something that could help you get fit. It is a small plastic disc that links to an app on your phone so you can do exercises.

You can do things like put it between your knees to tone your inner thighs. You squeeze on it and play a game on the phone. Depending on the pressure you use determines whether you reach targets.

It can increase strength by 30 per cent over six weeks working out just 15 minutes per day. I have it on my desk and use it whenever I can. I was surprised – but love this gadget.

  • Tanita RD-953S Connect Body Composition Monitor Scales, Black, £159.99 – buy now

These are no longer just things that you hop on and determine your weight! The new Tanita RD953 gives ten body composition readings, including a unique muscle quality assessment so you can not only see how much weight your losing but more importantly how effective your workouts are.

They look stylish too and come in black, red and white. The reading for percentage of body water is great so you can see if you are hydrated.

The app tracks your progress so you can see if you're improving your health every day.

  • NutriBullet Balance Smart Food Blender, Black, £149.99 – buy now

If you're a fan of the NutriBullet and are watching your calories this piece of kit is brilliant. It's a NutriBullet with built in scales.

You attach to the app and look at the recipes. Then you put each ingredient into the machine in order and track the nutritional value. The app shows the fat, calories, fibre, carbs, sugar and protein.

I found the app a bit fiddly to use but the idea is brilliant. Some people guzzle smoothies always thinking they can be healthy but you need to be careful – they can be packed full of sugar and calories! Great to encourage healthy eating in kids too.

  • Sally Hansen, Complete Salon Manicure, £6.99 (currently on sale £4.89) – buy now

Nail polish with seven benefits, it combines base coat, strengthener colour and top coat in one.

Also promises up to 64 per cent stronger nails which are shiny chip resistant for up to 10 days.

Includes growth treatment too which is a bonus and has an great variety of colours from nudes, pale pinks, purple and reds.

  • Jessica, Phenom Vivid Colour, £13.50 – buy now

This formula leaves nails with a gel-like shine but removes as easy as a polish. For best results it should be used with Phenom Basecoat and Finale Shine (also £13.50 each).

I tried brand new colour 5th Ave which is a gorgeous purple but there are around 70 shades to choose from!

A wonderfully thick formula it applied really well, dried within minutes and lasted over a week. My favourite.

  • SensatioNAIL, Express Gel Polish Starter Kit, £34.99 – buy now

Full kit to achieve salon-quality express gel manicure at home. I chose ‘made him blush’ a pale pink shade.

Includes LED lamp with USB and plug charger as well as a 10ml gel polish, double sided buffer, a manicure stick and instructions. Simply apply a thin coat of colour, set under the light for 30 seconds and that is it!

I personally use two or three coats for better coverage but the express gel can be used with only one coat if you’re in a rush! Additional colours can be purchased for £10.
