FLOTUS isn’t the only one that can cause a stir with her fashion choices. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi wore a throwback Max Mara statement red coat that generated significant chatter on social media — from White House insiders to armchair fashion critics.
Amid some serious online discourse about political issues, one tweeter quipped, “Not the most important thing — the most important thing is that Nancy Pelosi is a BALLER — but this coat is ON POINT.”
The newly crowned trendsetter added some holiday cheer to an otherwise somber subject, as she was spotted leaving a meeting discussing funding for the border wall with President Trump, Vice President Pence and Sen. Chuck Schumer.
It’s actually the second time Pelosi has been spotted in the “Fire Coat.” The first was in January 2013 for the second inauguration of Barack Obama.
So, like a lot of statement-making ensembles, “it clearly means something to her,” Ian Griffiths, Max Mara Creative Director said in a statement. “You develop an emotional relationship with a coat like nothing else in your wardrobe … I can imagine why Ms. Pelosi chose to wear it for this important moment, and I’m honored.”
Those looking to develop an even closer relationship with this style will be able to do just that, come 2019, when the brand will re-release the coat in a “variety of color ways.”
“This coat was designed over six years ago — [but] a good coat is a life companion so it should be designed not to date,” Griffiths said.
