Kate Middleton reportedly ignored the Royal Family's request about her wedding hair

But reportedly, the 36-year-old almost had a very different hairstyle when she walked down the aisle.

In documentary William and Kate: The Journey, journalist Ashley Pearson claims that the Royal Family wanted Kate to wear her hair up.

Ashley says: "Royal sources tell me that the royals indicated very strongly to Kate that they would prefer her to wear her hair up for this very special occasion.

"However, Kate had her heart set on wearing her hair down with long flowing curls, which is her favourite way to wear it, and actually William's favourite as well."

In the end, they compromised with a stunning half-up 'do.

Kate's finished look featured glamorous curls cascading down her back, with the front section pulled away from her face and pinned near the top of her head.

She accessorised with a lace veil – and that stunning Cartier Scroll tiara.

In 2011, hairdresser James Pryce revealed to The Telegraph that it took a meticulous operation to keep the tiara in place.

The piece was secured by backcombing the top of the hair, placing a tiny plait in the middle and sewing it on.

It sounds like a lot of effort, but it was totally worth it.

In more royal news, Prince Charles has joked that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Australia tour has inspired their baby name choice.

Princess Diana 'confronted Camilla at a party over her affair with Prince Charles' and 'all hell broke loose'.

And Princess Eugenie has gushed about the 'greatest day of my life' after posting a never-before-seen wedding photo.
