A MUM has revealed that she signed up for Universal Credit so that she can stay home with her baby while the taxpayer pays for their living costs.
Jade, 20, lives with her partner and their son Atticus who is five-months-old, and regularly shares updates about her life as a stay-at-home mum on her TikTok account.
In a recent video she shared of herself and her son, she wrote: “When mummy gets to stay home with me while UC pays for my milk and toys.”
Captioning her post, Jade admitted that she’s “not even sorry” for relying on benefits, revealing that she is only relying on them while she is on maternity leave before she returns to her full time job in nine months.
The video has since gone viral, amassing over 100,000 views with many wanting to know more about her situation.
In a follow-up video, Jade explained: “I’m on maternity and I get Universal Credit to top it up. I’m on £151 a week as my maternity pay and I get Universal Credit on top of that.
“Because my partner’s self-employed every single month we get different (amounts.)”
The mum says that she mainly uses her UC to afford rent but has previously admitted that she also pays a cleaner and that she has used “£240 off HMRC for toys.”

Jade’s candid videos have prompted a mixed reaction from viewers, many of whom accused her of setting a ‘bad example.’
Commenting on the original video, one wrote: “Try and be humble and grateful instead of trying to get a reaction.”
A second added: “Real good example you’re setting there. Nothing to brag about.”
“No need to brag, that’s our tax money,” added a third.
However, several mums jumped in to defend Jade.
One wrote: “Childcare is so expensive, you’re doing amazing!”
“Do people realise how much childcare costs? It’s insane – you do you boo,” agreed another.
