Glass hair, yellow blush and garden eyebrows were some of the weird beauty trends we tried in 2018

And thankfully, that's the perfect excuse to revamp our cosmetics cupboards and wave goodbye to some of the most bizarre, weird and downright puzzling beauty trends we saw in 2018.

From blush that made us look ill to brows that made us look like Disney villains, here are the looks we're glad to see the back of…

Yellow blush and eye-shadow

The sunshine shade might not traditionally be the go-to colour in many people's palettes but dabbing yellow onto the skin became a fast way to freshen up a look this year.

Margot Robbie wowed when make-up artist Pati Dubroff gave her some popping eye-shadow for the red carpet.

Meanwhile, Netta Szekely, a global senior artist for MAC Cosmetics, used yellow blush on model Ori Vinter to stunning effect.

The problem is, for us mere mortals without a set of razor-sharp cheekbones, it's easy to look more jaundiced or bruised than just-walked-off-the-catwalk.

Big hair

This year the volume was ramped up when it came to our locks – and in some cases to rather ridiculous heights.

Even gorgeous Kaia Gerber, the teenage model daughter of Cindy Crawford, looked like she was about to take someone's eye out with her heavily-backcombed hair on the Valentino catwalk during Paris couture week in July.

Thank you, next.

Garden brows

YouTube star Taylor R spawned a host of copycat efforts after she created this floral effect on her face back in March.

We're not denying this look is pretty, but turning our brows into a flowerbed seems a little over the top for the pub. Just saying.

Poo Nails

We've had nails that look like teeth, claws and even dead insects but the one mani trend that really horrified the internet this year was the pooing nails.

Yes, technicians at Russia's Nail Sunny salon took things to a new extreme when they dished out a manicure which left clients nails resembling women pooing when the tip of the nail was squeezed to releases a suspicious brown liquid.

But don't worry, the salon – which boasts over two million followers on Instagram –  reassured followers that it's "just Nutella".

Tiger brows

Another trend that hasn't been for everyone – and would require some dedicated plucking, we imagine.

Plus, we're only just starting to grow our brows out a la Cara Delevingne.

Glass hair

Hair stylist Chris Appleton brought us glass hair this year.

No, it's not hair made from glass, it's hair with mirror-like shine, preferably paired with a blunt bob and super-sleek styling. It’s a sharp haircut that’s styled to smooth, polished, shiny perfection.

Essentially hair that looks like it was cut from glass and none-other than Kim Kardashian is a fan, obvs!

Judging by his detailed instructions on Instagram, it's not one for those in a rush every morning…

Meghan Markle tendrils

The Duchess of Sussex's championing of glowy skin and nude make-up is a move we are a fan of.

However, the former Suits actress' tendrils – which she usually pairs with a low bun – have divided opinion between those who like her laid-back up-do and others who prefer a more sleek chignon.

90s gloss lips

You may have thought glossy pouts were relegated well and truly in the last millennium.

But lips so sticky they are destined to catch the odd stray hair returned with a vengeance thanks to revered make-up artist Pat McGrath.

Claw clips

Models at Alexander Wang's Autumn/ Winter 2018 show earlier this year saw their hair fixed up with  headmistress-y claw clips.

While the result may scream practical, it's a little too Matilda's Miss Trunchbull for our liking.

Tie dye hair

It may look great for the Instagram, but the arrival of tie-dye hair just brings up a multitude of stressful questions.

These include: Will my boss fire me? Can I skip a root touch-up?
