I'll never forget the first compliment I ever received on my iPhone case. It was back in 2010. I had just started college and promised my dad I wouldn't break my brand new phone, which was unfortunately something I was known for. But I finally upgraded from a pink Razr and vowed to do better. I found a case in the shape of a milk carton that said "Boys Tears" on it in huge hot pink lettering. "Perfect," I thought. "This will shield against my clumsiness and maybe unwanted advances from college guys."
The case ended up doing neither of those things. Guys didn't really seem intimidated by it, and I still managed to crack my screen. But when I wore it out to get Mexican food with my friends and propped my phone up next to our huge bowl of chips and guac, everyone in the restaurant started asking me about the case. I say "wore" on purpose, because the case felt like an accessory in its own right. It was literally the statement piece I didn't know I needed.
Fast forward to 2012. I was still using the beat up milk carton case, and even though it never failed to get me compliments, I was bored. I found myself taking more mirror selfies than ever and started to really see my phone case an essential part of my outfit. Considering I rarely wore the same look twice, it felt strange to have the same phone case for nearly two years straight. Then somehow I stumbled across the just-launched Wildflower Cases, a brand co-founded by sisters Devon and Sydney Carlson that same year. I was instantly just as obsessed as Miley Cyrus was.
The brand is run out of Los Angeles by the entire Carlson family, and was started because Cyrus complimented the case Michelle Carlson had handmade for her daughters at a chance local restaurant encounter. The Carlson family decided to turn their passion project into a business — one that's now known for its highly anticipated limited edition iPhone case drops that sell out instantly. Each drop features a new playful and colorful design that is a much-needed boost of serotonin. Think cherries, teddy bears, and most recently, groovy mushrooms. The celebrity following has only increased with Dua Lipa, Bella Hadid, and Kylie Jenner as avid fans. Even social media stars like Salem Mitchell and Emma Chamberlain have designed their own cases for the brand.

Wildflower has become the obsession of everyone on social media, especially Gen Z on Tik Tok. It's not uncommon to find someone who has an entire collection of Wildflower cases. I speak from experience when I say it's impossible to buy just one — especially considering each case costs around $35 and is available on Amazon. They're even more popular than some designer bags. Basically if you can't afford the newest expensive, trendy item that's all over social media, just invest in a couple of Wildflower Cases instead. They'll probably get you more compliments anyway, and it'll be an instant in with Gen Z.

If you're new to Wildflower cases, the options might be overwhelming at first because there are so many to choose from. So I spoke with the Carlson sisters to get their guidance on where to start. Devon's current favorite is the Peace n Luv case, which has been "bringing her lots of happiness recently." Sydney, on the other hand, is partial to their latest release of Groovy Shrooms. But if they could each only have one case forever, Devon says she'd opt for the Bear-y Cute case. "It seems to match everything I've been wearing recently, and teddy bears will never go out of style, in my opinion," she says. Sydney, on the other hand, would choose the Cherries case, which she says she always gravitates to and sees matching her style for a long time.
Considering I currently have the Bear-y Cute case in my Amazon cart and recently got a manicure to match my own Cherries case, I couldn't agree with them more. They also both note how their outfits just feel incomplete without a Wildflower case. As Devon puts it: "My phone is always on me, and I want it to be as cute as I am."
Since investing in my own collection of Wildflower cases, I can confirm that the amount of compliments I get on the daily has increased. Some of my friends have since bought matching cases, and I've definitely inspired more than a handful of Brooklyn baristas to buy their own after they've seen mine. And while my first iPhone case was somewhat of a joke to repel boys, my Wildflower case obsession has actually rubbed off on my boyfriend, too — he has even stolen a few of my cases. And yes, he gets plenty of compliments too.
